BASEC advises cable manufacturers and distributors at MEE exhibition how to be CPR ready

The British Approvals Service for Cables (BASEC), the international leader in test and certification services for energy, data and signal cables and ancillary products, will be advising cable manufacturers and distributors exporting construction cable into the EU about the imminent Construction Products Regulation (CPR) for cables deadline, at this year’s Middle East Electricity Exhibition (MEEE).
The Approved Cables Initiative (ACI) has been alerted to a batch of low smoke flex, found with a `BASEC approved’ sticker on its packaging that is not BASEC approved and this has been brought to BASEC’s attention.
Leading safety charity, Electrical Safety First, is delighted the Government has acknowledged the importance of its campaign against dangerous electrical items - recently highlighted by media headlines around damage caused by white goods such as tumble-dryers and gadgets such as hoverboards.
With the terms LSF and LSHF often interchanged due to the misconception that they are acronyms for the same thing, the ACI is telling contractors and installers to be cautious of cable labelled or described as LSF as this does not mean “halogen-free”.
Does It Comply? is an industry initiative lead by BEAMA, GAMBICA, LIA, ACI, and ESCO, and supported by Voltimum. The mission is to educate and inform contractors, installers, and specifiers to the damaging consequences to the industry from the trade in non-compliant product, whilst raising the profile to the wider stakeholders of issues with non-compliant products.
